Students learn best when they are comfortable in their environment. As an incoming accepted transfer student at the University of California, Irvine, students are invited to take part in Transfer Edge, an innovative opportunity that will provide them with a rich academic, social, and personal foundation that will prepare them for their future at UCI and beyond.

Faculty and staff should be aware of this program because of its many benefits to students. It’s particularly useful to help incoming transfer students get ahead in their coursework, expand their social network, learn about campus resources, and ease the transition to UCI, including the move from a semester to quarter system. Students are also invited to exclusive co-curricular events such as faculty presentations and panels, and are even introduced to the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program so they may begin looking for research opportunities before fall even begins. Students who plan to attend graduate school find all of these benefits particularly advantageous as it can give them the extra edge they need to create a strong application.

Here is what students are saying about the program.

Being a part of the program and taking part in the program’s events helped me build confidence in interacting with others and building long-lasting friendships.

  • Ester Kim, 2014 Participant

There are so many opportunities at this school that people don’t learn about, and that I definitely wouldn’t have learned about unless I had done this program.

  • Anthony Wovenu, 2015 Participant

Transfer Edge did make an impact. I was able to really work hard and explore more of my passions. I was even fortunate enough to get a [research opportunity] for Fall!

  • Patrick Hwu, 2016 Participant

The Transfer Edge Program is offered during Session I and Session II and allows students to earn UCI units in the summer to help them get ahead and make finishing their degree in two years a possibility. By taking advantage of  this summer’s Pay for Only 8 incentive, Transfer Edge students can earn up to 20 units before fall term begins but pay for only 8 units in per unit course fees.
