Dear UCI Undergraduate,

We are delighted that you have chosen to attend UCI and we are confident that your time here will be challenging and rewarding.

UCI has world-class faculty who are experts in a huge variety of fields. I hope that you will discover what questions engage them, what thorny research issues fascinate them, what stimulates their creative energies, and in what ways their research contributes to the creation of new knowledge. With the faculty as your guides, you will have an opportunity to explore new disciplines, to be exposed to new ideas, to develop your creativity, to hone your critical skills and to develop a keener sense of the world around you. At UCI you will have an opportunity to participate in research that might take you into the world of nanotechnology or the making of new dance movement or the latest investigations into human behavior and more. As you work toward earning your undergraduate degree we hope that you connect with fields of study that absorb and engage you. Your involvement here at UCI will lay the foundation for life-long learning.

All of us in the Division of Undergraduate Education are dedicated to enhancing your undergraduate experience. We are here to help connect you to a wide range of academic programs and services, including campus-wide academic assistance programs, peer academic advising, honors programs, undergraduate research opportunities, academic advising for undecided/undeclared students, freshman seminars, international study abroad programs, and opportunities to intern and study in Washington, D.C. and Sacramento. We also support faculty and TAs in their efforts to teach undergraduate courses. Our services include training on new pedagogies, instructional technology workshops and related support services, confidential teaching consultation services, rental of multi-media equipment for classroom use, and faculty mini-grants for instructional improvement.
